Make a Gift to Save Dogs

Our Five Favorite Doggie Rescues

As we approach the end of another year, it's time for us to think about making end-of-year donations. Please consider making a donation to one of my these five doggie rescues.

Our dogs are special beings who teach us unconditional love and living in the moment. No dog or cat should be homeless, tossed aside, or made to roam the streets or live without a family in a shelter. Pet rescues save dogs and save lives, and through our support of these pet rescues, we can help save these precious lives too. Here's a tip of the paw to five of my favorite dog rescues.

PetConnect Rescue in Potomac, Maryland is special to me because without them, I would not have my loving dog Honey. Founded in 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, PetConnect’s mission is “to save the lives of abandoned dogs and cats and place them in loving and permanent homes.” PCR rescues dogs along the east coast from Maryland to Georgia adopting them into loving homes. I am grateful to PetConnect Rescue for bringing Honey into my life.

Adopt a Boxer Rescue (AABR) I am a lover of Boxers and have had two wonderful Boxers in my life. AABR is a great group that rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes unwanted and abandoned Boxer dogs. They rescue many Boxers from the deplorable puppy mills in Pennsylvania adopting them to loving, safe and warm homes. They also rescue homeless dogs from the streets of Turkey bringing them to the U.S. to live happy and healthy lives. AABR works within a large east coast area from Rhode Island to Virginia. If you buy a Zenn Doggie Massage t-shirt, all proceeds from the sale are donated to AABR.

Panda Paws Rescue is a home-based rescue out of Washington State and specializes in hospice and special medical needs dogs. They rescue, rehabilitate, and provide hospice care. You may know PPR from the Animal Planet show Amanda to the Rescue. I’ve been following Amanda and PPR from before the notoriety of the TV show. This rescue is run with a dedicated heart, a true humanity and a devotion to “ending the homelessness, abuse & neglect of all animals and be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.” PPR Rocks!

The Mia Foundation is another home-based rescue focusing on special needs dogs especially those with congenital disorders like cleft palates and swimmers syndrome. They work miracles for these special needs dogs and have also taken in birds and goats! One special dog MacKenzie was the American Humane’s Hero Dog of 2020 for the special care she gives to all the other rescue dogs that come to the Mia Foundation.

House With A Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary in Gaithersburg, Maryland is a home-based senior pet sanctuary caring for senior and special needs dogs and cats. Their mission is “to provide a ‘Helping Hand’ for senior pets…and provide love, affection, and shelter. They have a number of wonderful programs like Feed Fido and Fluffy that helps provide dog and cat food to low-income families, seniors and the physically challenged and K9 and Kitty Medical Miracles that provides “medical grants to Rescue Partners who save senior dogs and cats from shelters or owner surrenders.”

There are so many wonderful and deserving animal rescues across the United States and in your hometown saving dogs and giving them loving, warm and safe homes. Please take a moment to make a donation or volunteer at a dog rescue near you.
